Fans of Wicked They are warned. In the United States, viewers who came to see the musical with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in AMC group theaters were instructed not to sing during the screening.
According to The Independent, a short video, broadcast before the screening of the film, invites those present in the room not to talk, not to send text messages, not to sing and, above all, not to utter insults during the session.
“In AMC theaters, silence is golden. In AMC theaters, silence is golden. No talking. No texting. No singing. No moaning. No flirting. And definitely no dating. You can hear ‘insults’ .Enjoy the magic of cinema’.
Avoid “disruptive behavior”
According to a spokesperson for AMC Cinemas, Ryan Noonan, interviewed by IndyStar, this video is not specific to Wicked and in fact it would be a “long-standing policy” implemented by the group to avoid “disruptive behavior” during sessions in their rooms.
However, it invites fans of Wicked be respectful of other viewers, especially since the film is a musical with cult titles such as Popular EITHER Defying gravity.
“The ad aired prior to the screening of ‘Wicked’ serves to remind viewers not to disrupt the experience of those around them while enjoying the film,” Ryan Noonan concluded in his press release.
Karaoke version scheduled for December 25
On social media, other viewers of the film in the Philippines said they received the same instructions through posters installed at movie theater box offices. “To viewers who have come to see ‘Wicked’, (…) please refrain from singing during the screening,” these posters read.
These same posters also specify that a special version of Wickedin karaoke, is specially planned by Universal for December 25. And this time fans will be able to sing the key pieces of the musical during the session.
Created by Stephen Schwartz and presented on Broadway in 2003, the musical Wicked is both a prequel and a rewrite of the wizard of oz. Its film adaptation by Jon M. Chu, scheduled for December 4 in France, will bring together Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey and Jeff Goldblum on screen.
