The actor began dubbing Mufasa after filming. Mr. Aznavour and, without him looking for it, it is his interpretation of the singer of Bohemia who helped him find his voice for the Disney film.
“I joked by singing a part of the song (from the film) in Aznavour’s voice, for a laugh,” he told BFMTV.
“As (Aznavour) was really into bass, I remember the crew quickly looked at me askance. I went out for coffee and when I came back, they said, ‘We heard the bass, I need to get into the bass. It’ll give it more depth, more density. And that’s how we managed to find the performed voice of Mufasa.”

“To have comments from the public so sincere and moved by Charles’s story, what he managed to achieve…” he rejoices.
“May it inspire them too, I didn’t think I would speak so much to young people. We have teenagers, sometimes children, who feel moved. “The magic of Aznavour lives on.”
the plot of Mufasa: the lion king takes place before the events of Lion Kingdirected by Jon Favreau in 2019, itself adapted from the 1994 Disney cartoon. This new film returns to the youth of Mufasa, the father of Simba, hero of the original film. We discover in particular how the conflictive relationship with his brother Taka, real name of the character Scar, voiced by Gwendal Marimoutou, was born. The cast is completed by Jamel Debbouze and Alban Ivanov, who play Timon and Pumbaa.
For this first experience in dubbing, Tahar Rahim chose a character that marked his own childhood. “I kept going to see (the movie),” he recalled of the original cartoon. “My sister took me to the movies, I went up to five times.”
