Revocation of the right to abortion: Jennifer Lawrence reveals that she wanted to resort to abortion

The Oscar-winning actress lays out her progressive beliefs, from abortion rights to fighting guns, in an interview for “Vogue.”

It is a very political interview that Jennifer Lawrence delivers to the fashion American. The 32-year-old actress, who stars on the cover of the October issue, is especially committed to the right to abortion, which is hampered in the United States. She reveals that she herself almost turned to him a few years ago, before her unwanted pregnancy was naturally terminated by a miscarriage.

The interview took place last June, days after the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, in force since 1973, which guaranteed the right to abortion in the country. Every state is now free to ban it.

“What if they force me to be pregnant?”

It was in her early twenties, just as her Hollywood career was beginning to take off, that Jennifer Lawrence became pregnant. “She planned 100% to abort”, writes the journalist from fashion Abby Aguirre.

“I had a miscarriage alone in Montreal,” the Red Sparrow star explains.

She reveals that she suffered a second miscarriage on the set of don’t look up. This time, she was married to art gallery manager Cooke Maroney and wanted to start a family. The couple ended up having a son, Cy, last February.

“I thought about it a million times during my pregnancy (…) I had a great pregnancy, I was very lucky. But every second of my life was different, and sometimes I wondered: ‘what if they forced me to do this? ?’.

With the candor and humor that made her the darling of the American media, she shares her anger when she saw the first restrictions fall in some states: “(Abortion) is too personal a decision in a woman’s life to see the white men discuss it”. wombs when they are unable, from the bottom of their hearts, to find a clitoris.

Anti-guns, pro-equality

And to continue the issue of gun regulation, brought back to the center of public debate in recent years after a string of shootings: “I’m raising a little boy who will one day go to school. Guns are the leading cause of death for children in the US And people still vote for politicians who get money from the NRA? It drives me crazy.”

Adding to the persistent pay gap between men and women, in Hollywood as elsewhere: “No matter how much I make, will I still make less than a man, because of my vagina?”

family fracture

Raised by a Republican family, in the very conservative state of Kentucky, she explains that she has revised her copy in recent years. Today, she is desperate to see Americans reject Hillary Clinton at the polls in favor of Donald Trump, whom she describes as a “dangerous, dangerous pot of mayonnaise.” This political change cost her good relationship with certain relatives of hers, in particular with her father.

“I have worked very hard for the last five years to forgive my father and my family and try to understand them: it is different. The information they receive is different, their life is different. I tried to move on, but I can’t. I can’t get along.” with people who are not politicians. You live in the United States of America. You have to be political. Politics is killing people.”

“I don’t want to denigrate my family, but I know a lot of people are in a similar situation to them,” she adds. “How can you raise a girl from birth and not think she deserves equality? How?”

However, he keeps trying to talk politics to them: “I broach the subject in the sense that I blow off steam by texting. I go: boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. They don’t answer. So I feel bad and I end up sending them a picture of the baby”.
