British journalist Andrew Morton, known for writing the famous biography Diana: her true storytold the program Good morning america to have been “impressed” by elizabeth debickiwho plays the Princess of Wales in season 5 of The crown.
“It completely blew me away, it took me back in time,” said the writer, who served as a consultant on the new season and appears there as Andrew Steele (stranger). “I don’t say this often, but it shook me.”
By the time the fourth series aired, Andrew Morton had praised Emma Corrin’s performance in Diana, assuring with vanity fair which was his most faithful rendition ever shown on screen.
Elizabeth Debicki paid tribute to Diana at the series premiere in a Dior gown with matching scarf. A set reminiscent of Catherine Walker’s sky blue dress that Diana wore at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival.
liberties taken
The new episodes, online since last week on Netflix, focus on the 1990s, marked by the breakup between Prince Charles and Diana, creating great anticipation but also strong criticism of the liberties the series takes.
This season evokes in particular the shocking television interview of Princess Diana on the BBC addressing Carlos’ infidelity, the latter’s adulterous relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles or their divorce.
For this season, Imelda Stauton plays the queen, replacing Olivia Colman. Dominic West and Elizabeth Debicki succeed Josh O’Connor and Emma Corrin as Charles and Diana. A sixth season is planned, with the same cast.
