Mariah Carey will not be the “Queen of Christmas” this year. Last August, the singer, famous for her festive title All I want for Christmas is you, he had attempted to register this nickname as an official trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
But this request was ultimately rejected. as the media say entertainment weekly, it is in particular to the artist Elizabeth Chan that Mariah Carey owes this refusal. The latter, which only produces Christmas-related records, opposed the pop star’s filing of the brands “Christmas Queen”, “Christmas Princess” and “QOC”.
Had the petition been successful, Mariah Carey could have sued anyone using these titles, but she also asked any outlet to stop using the term “Christmas queen” to describe anyone other than her.
“No one should take Christmas away from us”
For her part, Elizabeth Chan justified her opposition to this trademark registration by explaining that, in her opinion, it was not very moral to try to “appropriate” Christmas.
“I firmly believe that no one should hoard anything on Christmas or monopolize it like Mariah is trying to do in perpetuity,” Elizabeth Chan said in an interview with variety in August.
Faced with this reaction, Mariah Carey could have counterattacked by providing elements that justify why, according to her, she deserved the title of the only queen of Christmas. But the singer did not respond.
