Robert De Niro called to “defend democracy” in front of an American president Donald Trump “not cultivated”, upon receiving a gold palm of honor for his immense career as an actor during the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday, May 13.
In the United States, “we are fighting the bathroom to defend democracy that we still consider acquired,” said the 81 -year -old actor, opposing Donald Trump.
“Art is inclusive, it brings together people, since tonight, art is in search of freedom, art includes diversity and that is why art is threatened! That is why we are a threat to the autocrats and fascists of this world,” he added.
Act “without violence but with passion”
