Calls for hasty justice questioned

The authority criticizes the host in particular for having “made repeated observations regarding both the conditions in which the defendant’s trial was to be held and its outcome”, citing “in particular” calls for “speedy trials and automatic life”. sentences in such cases”.

“If we have all the evidence, it’s direct life,” said presenter Cyril Hanouna on October 18 on the TPMP set. “I am sorry. There is no manipulation or lack of discernment (…) This is the type of case in which, crazy or not, she should be in jail. It should not be treated.”

Arcom also explains that “the presenter was able to express his opinion at length without being opposed by a quick and effective contradiction, without taking into account the obligation to respect the expression of different points of view on air on a controversial issue.”

The circumstances of his death and the profile of the suspect, an Algerian national and forced to leave French territory (OQTF), had aroused strong criticism from the right and extreme right.

“Are you not aware of your actions? It is a law that must also be reviewed. (…) Listening to this speech in France, I can’t take it anymore, it is unbearable and the laws must change,” he concluded. Asked about the host’s position, Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti described it as a “denial of the rule of law.”
