The Australian actor, who participated in the National Geographic documentary series Unlimitedabout the limits of the human body and the effects of aging, discovered on this occasion that he carries a gene that predisposes him to Alzheimer’s disease.
Chris Hemsworth, whose grandfather has Alzheimer’s, says in the documentary that what he discovered was “his biggest fear.” Although it is not a definitive diagnosis, as he explains in an interview with Vanity Fair, simply the presence of a gene that multiplies the risk of being affected by the disease.
“It really triggered something in me that made me want to take some time off,” he explains again, noting that since the end of the documentary he has “completed the projects he was hired to do.”
The actor has no other plan at the moment than to return home and spend time with his wife and children.
“When I finish this tour this week, I’m going to go home and take a lot of time off to make my life easier,” he added. “Being with the kids, being with my wife.”
While Disney, which co-produces Unlimited offered to remove the sequence in which he learns of the existence of this gene, the actor refused, preferring to keep it and make it a prevention tool.
“Look, if that can motivate people to take better care of themselves and understand that action needs to be taken, then that’s great,” she also told Vanity Fair.
