New Opus, new scandal? Franco-Tunisian director Abdellatif Kechiche is back in Locarno with Mektoub my love: Singing due, Last part of his trilogy of the same name. The feature film will contribute to the international selection of the festival, which is from August 6 to 16, the organizers announced. No details have been given to this new film by the director of Adèle’s lifePalme d’Or 2013. Contacted by AFP, the festival did not follow up immediately.
“This is a film in which we work a lot of time. And therefore, thanks to the producer’s confidence, we are very proud, in Locarno, to be able to offer it,” said the artistic director of the Festival, Giona Nazzaro, during a press conference.
Very raw sex scenes
In 2019, the projection in the competition in Cannes de Mektoub my love: intermezzoThe second part of this saga in the youth of the 1990s, had caused a storm due to very raw sex scenes.
One of the actors in the film, Ophélie Bau, had climbed the steps, but had eclipsed before the projection of this feature film that showed, for more than three hours, bodies of young women dancing in a nightclub.
“The most important thing for me was to celebrate life, love, desire, bread, music, body and try the most free cinematographic experience,” justified the filmmaker at a press conference.
Pomentated by the controversy, the film had never been released in theaters and Abdellatif Kechiche had disappeared from the media scene. He had reappeared at the end of 2022 during a master class in Montpellier (southeast), where he had said he hoped to complete his trilogy.
“I spend my time there, during all these years. I have done almost that: go up, return, try … I hope soon the end of ‘Mektoub ‘He explained to the filmmaker, whose coming caused a small demonstration of people who denounce their “sexism” and their working methods.
The first part of the saga, Mektoub my love: I sing oneIt was released in theaters in 2018 after being presented a few months before at the Venice Festival.
