“Netanyahu deserves our categorical conviction”: U2 is outraged against the Israeli government

The four members of the Irish rock group took a position in favor of the Palestinians and a solution of two states on a long platform published on Sunday in place.

Four long individual and solemn statements. This Sunday, the members of the U2 group in turn denounced the actions of the Government of Benjamin Netanyahu and the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Gaza in a gallery published jointly on their site and on Instagram.

“Everyone has been horrified by what is happening in Gaza, but the blockade of humanitarian aid and current plans destined to take military control of the city of Gaza (for Israel) have changed the conflict in an unknown area,” they said in the same voice, in the introduction of the gallery, echoing the recent statements of the Israeli Prime Minister “Hamas.”

And to specify: “We are not experts in regional policies, but we want our audience to understand our position.”

Two -states solution

Bono judged that “the violation, murder and kidnapping of Israelis during the Nova Music Festival” were “diabolical”, but said that Hamas was not “was not the Palestinian people … a town that has suffered and continues to suffer marginalization, oppression, occupation and systematic flight for decades.”

Then he denounces: “We know that Hamas uses famine as a gun of war, but Israel is now doing the same, and they reject this moral failure. The Israeli government is not the nation of Israel, but the Israeli government led today led by Benjamin Netanyahu deserves our categorical and unequivocal sentence.”

And he adds: “Nothing justifies the brutality that he and his distant government inflicted the Palestinian people … in Gaza … in the West Bank. And not only since October 7, much earlier … even if the level of depravation and anarchy that we are witnessing today seems unexplored.”

The current humanitarian crisis in Gaza also revived the old memories in Bono’s memory: “The images of hungry children in the Gaza strip reminded me of a work trip that my wife Ali and I did, forty years ago, in a food center in Ethiopia, after the participation of U2 in Live Aid 1985. Another famine caused by humans.”

The group singer finally positioned himself for a solution to two states and for the cessation of hostilities on both sides.

“Peace is not obtained by domination”

“If Israel decides to colonize the Gaza Strip, this will definitely destroy any possibility of peace or lasting resolution of hostilities,” said Adam Clayton, the bassist of the group.

The guitarist The Edge challenges Benjamin Netanyahu: “Do you really think that such devastation, inflicted so intentionally and tirelessly in a civilian population, to occur without managers being covered with shame for generations? […] How can this line of conduct improve the safety of its people? “

“It is difficult to understand how a civilized society may think that children’s famine will serve a cause and constitute an acceptable response to a new horror,” Larry Mullen Junior deplored, the drummer.

The group finally promised to support making a donation to medical aid to the Palestinians.
