Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is coming to a close and culminates with the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special. Throughout this stage Black Panther: Wakanda Forever it was the most awaited upcoming Marvel movies , achieving huge box office success upon release. The movie was in jeopardy for a while there. for the death of Chawick Boseman , as well as the injury and semi-erasure of Shuri actress Letitia Wright. Marvel’s Letitia Wright hit hot water in December 2020, in the middle of filming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. He shared a controversial video on Twitter, in which he proclaimed himself a prophet anti-vaccination express and homophobic rhetoric. The 29-year-old actress ended up apologizing and delete his twitter , before returning to set to complete filming on Ryan Coogler’s sequel. Wright recently broke his silence on the controversy during an interview with The Guardian said:
I feel like it’s something I went through two years ago and have moved forward in a healthy way. And sanely, I apologized and deleted my Twitter. I just apologized for the harm I caused someone. That’s exactly what my apologies were. I said it’s not me and I apologise.
This sentiment will no doubt come as a relief to Marvel fans who may have had mixed feelings about Letitia Wright since the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. While she gave an outstanding and heartwarming performance in the long-awaited sequel, some were still wondering what the actress’ character was in real life.
Letitia Wright’s comments to The Guardian are apparently the only time her vaccine controversy has been addressed as she pushes for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Ryan Coogler’s sequel transformed Shuri from a supporting actress to the film’s star, as Wright’s character mourned her late brother and ultimately became the next Panther. Shuri seemed like the obvious choice from the start, so the controversies surrounding the actress garnered a lot of attention at the time.
Speaking to The Guardian about black panther 2, journalist Simon Hattenstone asked Letitia Wright for a sequel. Namely, the anti-vaccine and homophobic views shared in the now-deleted YouTube clip misrepresented their values. He confirmed what the apology was about, responding with:
These are things I’m not and I apologized and moved on.
This is where the journalist allegedly pushed once again, asking if Letitia Wright had already been vaccinated against covid-19. Health protocols on film sets have intensified since the resumption of production of film and television projects. She said:

Letitia Wright has avoided this inquiry into her private medical information, but this honest conversation with The Guardian could provide much-needed closure for fans who had mixed feelings about the actress and her role in black panther 2. It looks like the franchise will now be very focused on Shuri, so smart money says Wright is here to stay. Although other questions about this controversy may end later in future projects.
