The Marseille group Landmvrks, which oscillates between metal and rap, was crowned artist of the year on Thursday, October 9, during the first edition of Foudres, a new awards ceremony dedicated to French metal, at the Bataclan in Paris.
“Really incredible, thank you for everything (…) It is an honor to see our work rewarded,” reacted the singer and co-founder Florent Salfati in a video broadcast in the room and filmed from the United States, where the quintet is on tour.
The group also won the Lightning for best album for their fourth self-produced effort, “The Darkest Place I’ve Ever Been,” released in the spring.
“It is unbeatable in terms of atmosphere”
Their music has two sides: like the title “Suffocate”, it combines melodic passages and rawer riffs. In “Blood red”, the group displays its range of voices, sung, rapped or saturated.
“Something is happening in the international metal scene,” said guitarist Paul Cordebard during a conversation with the group in August at the Cabaret Vert in Charleville-Mézières.
“Rock and metal concerts in general are unbeatable in terms of atmosphere,” stressed Landmvrks, who has already performed three times at Hellfest, the world gathering of extreme music in Clisson (Loire-Atlantique).
Highlighting music in full expansion
Earlier in the evening, Les Foudres awarded other big names in the metal world, such as Gojira for best live performance and Hellfest for event of the year, but also Revnoir, revelation of the year.
Six categories were submitted to a public vote, in addition to that of a jury of professionals.
Hosted by radio columnist and comedian Thomas VDB, the ceremony will be broadcast at 10:55 p.m. on France 4 and france.tv.
The event, organized by the Paris Entertainment Company, aims to highlight rapidly expanding music, heard by an increasingly broad audience but which, according to the organizers, is not sufficiently represented in more general ceremonies such as the Victoires de la Musique.
