Comedian Nawell Madani has been summoned to court to receive a citizen’s contribution, an alternative to trial, after having hit a child in the street for a bad “reflex”, according to her, the Paris prosecutor’s office reported on Friday.
Nawell Madani is summoned before a prosecutor’s representative with a view to a citizen contribution “for violence against a minor under 15 years of age resulting in incapacity for work of no more than eight days,” the same source specified.
A measure seen as an alternative
The child “was declared totally incapable of working for three days,” says the Prosecutor’s Office. Instead of the perpetrator of a crime being tried by a criminal court, the prosecutor may decide to implement alternative measures to prosecution, such as asking the perpetrator to pay a citizen contribution to a victim support association.
The amount of this contribution is set by the prosecutor based on the seriousness of the facts, the resources and the accusation of the author. The maximum amount is 3,000 euros.
The comedian went to the police on Monday after hitting a child, in “a defensive reflex in the face of a situation” perceived “as dangerous,” according to her lawyer, Caroline Toby, told AFP.
Nawell Madani “explained having been approached by children, having feared a robbery and having hit a child,” sensing “that a complaint would surely be filed in this regard, as was the case later,” the prosecutor explained.
“Deeply affected”
The Belgian-Algerian comedian is “deeply affected by what happened and wishes to express all her sadness towards the boy and his family,” explained her lawyer.
According to Le Parisien, the 6-year-old boy, accompanied by adults, wanted to take a photo with the comedian, but received, according to his father’s testimony, “a strong blow to the chest.”
Nawell Madani, 45, was part of the Miss France 2025 jury and started at the Jamel Comedy Club. He also starred in the hit Alibi.com, directed the film “That’s All for Me” and signed a Netflix series “So Far So Good” in which he stars.
