Donald Trump declared on Sunday, October 12, that the war in Gaza was “over,” aboard the presidential plane leaving for Israel and Egypt, where he is expected on Monday at the “Peace Summit” in Gaza.
“The war is over. Is it okay? Do you understand?” the American president told reporters in response to a question about the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
He is scheduled to arrive in Israel in the morning to spend a few hours in what will be his first visit to the country since his return to the White House. The American president stated that his trip to the Middle East will be “very special.”
“A historical event”
First stage of the plan presented by Donald Trump to silence the guns, the return to Israel of the 48 hostages, dead or alive, still in the hands of Hamas, is scheduled “early” on Monday morning.
The return of the hostages will be followed by Israel’s release of 250 detainees for “security reasons”, including many convicted of deadly anti-Israel attacks, and 1,700 Palestinians arrested in Gaza since October 2023.
The release of the Israeli hostages will mark a “historic event” that mixes “sadness” and “joy,” declared Benjamin Netanyahu two days after the entry into force of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, where the war was triggered by Hamas’ unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
