“Concerned” is a strong and unusual word for a Buckingham statement. The palace said on Thursday that Queen Elizabeth’s health was of concern to her doctors. A frankness that contrasts with the usual communication, always very vague, when it comes to the sovereign’s health.
“The fact that they put out this statement is deeply troubling, royal columnist Phil Dampier tells Newsweek. They don’t normally do that.”
In fact, the previous press releases about his health were all full of euphemisms and very positive. During her hospitalization in 2021, it was specified that the queen was in “good morals”, or that she was undergoing “preliminary examinations”. More recently, royal press releases simply referred to “mobility issues” to explain the absence of it. But never anything to worry about.
“The End Is Not Far”
The terms of the latest press release are therefore of great concern to monarchy watchers accustomed to Buckingham’s understatements. Everyone agrees that this is a “significant moment”, in the words of Alastair Bruce the sky newswhich notes that “Buckingham Palace measures every advertisement it makes very carefully.”
Royal columnist Victoria Arbiter also finds this announcement “slightly disturbing”.
For the historian and professor of history of the monarchy, Anna Whitelocke, the Buckingham Palace announcement heralds “very serious times” and points out that “the end is not far off”.
“I think British public opinion is preparing for what is called London Bridge. [NDLR: le protocole prévu au moment où la reine mourra]“, for his part stressed Stéphane Bern on BFMTV.
The family at the bedside of the Queen
The following announcements have nothing to reassure the British. Spokesmen for Prince Charles, William or even Harry and Meghan, who were in Germany, thus indicated that they all went to the queen’s bed.
In Britain, the media seems to be preparing for the worst. The BBC has suspended its usual programming until 6:00 p.m. Some observers also point out that the presenters of the public channel they are dressed in black.
