Prince Andrew announced in a press release this Friday, October 17, that he would be giving up his royal titles, including that of Duke of York, the BBC reports. However, he will still be a prince, as he was born as the son of Queen Elizabeth II.
“After discussions with the King and my immediate and extended family, we have concluded that the continued allegations against me distract from the work of Her Majesty and the Royal Family,” Prince Andrew wrote.
“I have decided, as I have always done, to put my duty to my family and my country first,” continues King Charles’ brother, adding “to maintain (his) decision taken five years ago to retire from public life.”
“We believe that now we must take another step,” he said.
