Attention! The following contains spoilers for Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special. Read at your own risk!
Marvel fans have questions. after the release of Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special, and so far, James Gunn hasn’t been shy about giving answers. The director has already revealed special things i include to avoid wasting time explaining them GOTG vol. 3and even purged the track listing of all featured songs. He also reportedly explained how Nebula put her hands on Bucky’s arm to give it to Rocket Raccoon, but I seriously wonder if he’s sincere about it.
James Gunn was happy to explain the plot point to a curious fan of Chirping , although I don’t know if it’s serious or not. See what Gunn had to say below when a fan asked how Nebula got Bucky’s arm:
She took a trip to earth and ripped it out of her body because she was feeling very Christmassy.November 26, 2022
Well, that seems like a very short explanation that certainly deserves a lot of follow-up questions. If Nebula really did this to Bucky, then I think he’d have a big problem with the Avengers the next time the Guardians got together. Of course, it’s a little hard to believe that’s actually what happened. This looks even more suspicious after Gunn responded to a deleted tweet criticizing the decision and claimed that Nebula considered Bucky “wet crepe paper”:
I’m so sorry, but it’s over. Nebula thinks of Bucky as wet crepe paper. That said, she couldn’t help but rip his arm off because it was so Christmassy! 🎄🦾 PS: nobody forced me to insert alien cyborgs. https://t.co/SgLKAe7BpJNovember 28, 2022
It seems that James Gunn is trolling just a little, which he did occasionally on Twitter. At the same time, the claim that Nebula rips off Bucky’s arm is canon, and I’m skeptical that it really is. It’s rare for the MCU to make a decision involving another franchise without first having a plan to explain it, and getting Bucky’s arm feels like a big decision. It’s possible that Gunn doesn’t really care about finding the right time to enter the canon now that he is filming finished guardians of the galaxy vol. 3 Forks work in DC ?
I guess that’s not the case, and there’s an actual plan to explain how Nebula managed to grab Bucky’s arm. I also bet James Gunn knows, or at least he has an idea of which. wonderful next movie could answer this question. However, due to NDAs and Marvel’s secrecy, they can’t just reveal that answer.
If so, James Gunn has several options for answering a question about it. The first is that he could dodge the question and find himself plagued with constant inquiries about it until he finally has an answer in another MCU project.
Another option is that he could just claim an answer is true, even if it’s a lie, and fans will either accept that answer or understand that they won’t get a real answer from him. I’d be inclined to believe the second option is what’s going on here, but honestly, I have no idea. Maybe in 2023 we’ll see a scene of Nebula ripping off Bucky’s arm and flying, strangely.
Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special is currently available to stream with a Disney+ membership. It’s a must-have for any Marvel fan looking to get into the holiday spirit, such as it is Hawk eye if anyone is on the fence to review it when December approaches
