Kyle Capener is the talk of the town Older brother fandom right now, and not exactly for the best reasons. Their admission of racial prejudice assuming that minorities in the House were secretly aligned had not been welcomed by many inside and outside the House, and it more or less helped orchestrate the expulsion of Joseph Abdin and the betrayal of the Remnants the week before. Joseph was overwhelmed by his unexpected eviction and told Gossipify that he would never betray the deal the way his former roommate and ally did.
Gossipify continues to follow the events of the game with a Paramount + subscription , and I couldn’t help but notice that Joseph had many opportunities to change the plot of their pact, but he decided not to. I asked him if he was ever tempted to cheat on The Leftovers while he was still in the house, and Joseph confirmed that even if he thought about it, he wouldn’t do it with Kyle:
There was always temptation. There is always temptation. This is the goal of the game, but I wasn’t going to let it get to me. Life, all of this, has temptations. Even though it’s a game, I think it reflects who you are and when you’re ready to let go of certain traits. And I don’t break easily.
Joseph doesn’t directly mention Kyle in his answer about the possible betrayal of the deal, but it’s hard not to take his words and connect them to what the other member of The Leftovers did. Nor is it surprising to hear Joseph say that he did not even intend to betray the covenant, as it would not benefit him anyway. Kyle’s betrayal was mainly rooted in the rescue of show partner Alyssa which was not in the covenant.
That said, there is a very short list of people who have played an honest and fair game Older brother and he went away victorious. (The majority of most memorable winners did the opposite.) I asked Joseph if he fully understood how difficult it would be to play Older brother with integrity and loyalty, and the former Houseguest confirmed that he had at least an idea of what he was hunting for:
I understood, to a certain extent, how difficult it was going to be. I think in life itself it’s hard to do that, let alone a game where you can justify jumping the ship with those traits. Once I played, I realized the difficulties I was facing, but I would have overcome them.
Joseph is currently in the jury house and will soon come face to face with Kyle after he is expelled. Joseph was no longer interested in Kyle thanks to the unexpected betrayal, and it is possible that he will degrade further if Kyle lets him know everything that came to light after he left. I’m sure the jury footage from this conversation will be a must watch on TV, assuming we get a chance to see it.
Older brother aired on CBS (opens in a new tab) Sundays and Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET and Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET. It’s a game for anyone, because Next Head of the Household seems like one of the most vital games for so many people, so now is the perfect time to watch live streams. Beginners can find our beginner’s guide a useful resource to discover the effective way of looking.
