Two-time Emmy Award winner Kirstie Alley, who starred in the television series “Cheers,” has died of cancer at the age of 71, her family announced Monday.
“We are saddened to inform you that our amazing, hard-working and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, which was recently discovered,” her children Lillie Price Stevenson and William True Stevenson announced in a statement posted on Twitter.
“The drive and passion for life of our mother, her children, grandchildren and many animals, not to mention her undying joy to create, was unparalleled and leaves us inspired to live life to the fullest as she did,” they add.
Kirstie Alley was known for her role as Rebecca Howe in the NBC series “Cheers,” about the life of Boston bar-goers, for which she received the 1991 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. .
Tribute to John Travolta
She received a second Emmy for her portrayal of a mother raising her autistic son alone in the 1994 film “Crazy David.”
Kirstie Alley also starred in the 1989 romantic comedy “Hello Mommy Here Baby,” as well as its two sequels, opposite John Travolta.
He paid tribute to the actress on Monday night, posting a photo of Kristie Alley as a young woman on Instagram.
“Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had,” said John Travolta. “I love you Kirstie. I know we’ll see each other again.”
