Cher announces the death of her mother, actress and singer Georgia Holt

The actress and musician had already been hospitalized for pneumonia in September, according to her daughter Cher. She was 96 years old.

Georgia Holt, singer, actress and mother of musician Cher, has died at the age of 96. It was her daughter who confirmed the information on Twitter. Georgia Holt had been hospitalized for pneumonia last September but the reason for her death was not specified.

“Mom’s gone,” Cher soberly tweeted on Saturday.

Subsequently, the 76-year-old singer received numerous messages of support from fans and personalities, including Hillary Clinton. Cher’s spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg, also confirmed the news to Washington Post Sunday.

An album released in 2013

In September, Cher revealed on Twitter that Georgia Holt had been hospitalized with pneumonia. Since then, the singer has been very vigilant to avoid exposing her mother to any possible illness, especially during the pandemic.

“Sorry I was out. Mom was sick. Just got out of the hospital,” she tweeted at the time.

Georgia Holt was born in Arkansas in 1926. After moving to Los Angeles, she landed supporting roles in several films, including love and camera by Jack Donohue or Artists and models by Frank Tashlin.

In 1950, Georgia Holt is approached to play Angela Phinlay in the film, when the city sleeps directed by John Houston, but the role will eventually go to Marilyn Monroe.

He also released his first album, Honky Tonk Womanin 2013, an album that he recorded in the 80s. With his death, he leaves behind his two daughters, the singer Cher and the actress Georganne Lapiere.
