Thirty-four years after Willow Ufgood first protected baby Elora in 1988 Willow, the new Disney+ limited series Willow brought us back to the universe . While the show sees the return of Warwick Davis as the lead and Ron Howard as a producer, there’s also tons of new talent on the way with the show, including none other than well-known actor Christian Slater. Despite his notoriety, he is not role shy and has left the set with some battle scars.
We spoke to Slater on the red carpet for the world premiere of Willow, and revealed the following about an injury he sustained while filming one of the show’s many fight scenes:
It’s pretty intense. I mean, they had a great team. We did a lot of choreography, of course. I mean, it was… it was a lot of work. I mean, I have a black eye. Yes, really. I mean, one of those fight scenes, I didn’t realize until I went back to the makeup trailer and I was trying to erase it and it wasn’t coming out. So, yes, there were cuts and bruises and yes, it was a tough show to put on, but it was worth it. I mean, I loved it. And I’m glad you saw it and felt good about it.
There are worse injuries on set than a black eye, but it’s funny enough that Christian Slater got so caught up in the scene that he didn’t realize he was being punched hard enough for a bruise to form. He imagines removing his makeup only to realize it was a real black and blue mark.
In the series, Slater’s character Allagash is no stranger to combat and, when we meet him, he’s already in the action. As the actor himself said, it was a lot of work for him, but he is proud of what he achieved.
From first epic Willow trailer came out, people were excited about the revival of the fantasy universe. While Disney+ may seem like an odd platform to some, the makers assured audiences that it was. all the sense in the world . For a long time, director John M. Chu has been on board to helm the project. While that didn’t materialize, he even gave the show his endorsement of him, calling showrunner Jake Kasdan regret after leaving the project .
As noted above, Ron Howard, the director of the original Willow – is behind the scenes on the series as a producer while Warwick Davis returns to lead the cast. But Davis and Christian Slater aren’t the only notable names involved. It features an all-star cast that includes the return of Kevin Pollack as Rool, as well as Tony Revolori and a host of others. talent you’ve probably seen before.
