It’s almost an open secret now that Netflix has no problem deleting shows and, in many cases, these cancellations can be very unexpected. 2022 was no different, as a number of major titles on the streaming platform met their demise. One program included in this group is the babysitters club, the latest adaptation of Ann M. Martin’s bestselling book series. Many fans took the business decision hard and series creator Rachel Shukert was disappointed too, as well. However, that seems to be about to change, as Shurkert has hinted that the series may return due to the recent love of awards.
the babysitters club, which was confirmed canceled after two seasons in March, caused quite a stir at the Children & Family Emmys held earlier this month. The young adult drama series has won major awards, including Outstanding Children’s or Family Series and Outstanding Writing for a Live-Action Children’s or Preschool Program. It also won Best Makeup and Hairstyling. These honors are apparently doing wonders for the series, as Rachel Shukert revealed that initial talks regarding a revival are apparently taking place:
We talk about it in a very preliminary way, wondering if we can take it somewhere else. Or if we could do it maybe as a movie, as a kind of special recap. The girls are obviously older now than when we started and they’ve really grown up. So I think we might need to configure it a bit in the future. But there is so much love for the show and for this property and for these characters, and I’m so grateful for that. Even after the show wasn’t renewed for a third season, it was very touching and gratifying to see how much love there was for the show. And this [Emmy] It’s kind of the icing on the ice.
These comments the EP shared with Variety They are sure to be music to fans’ ears. While it seems the plans are far from set in stone, the producer seems confident that something is up. It makes sense that there’s a surge of interest in the series right now. These particular Emmys are nothing to scoff at and, even before all of that, babysitting club it had already been critically acclaimed . So there’s a good chance this iteration of the legendary franchise will return to the small screen at some point.
the babysitters club centers on a group of high school students living in the fictional town of Stoneybrook, Connecticut. The girls form a babysitting service and from there find themselves drawn into endless adventures as they go through the ups and downs of adolescence. The The Netflix show featured a strong cast which featured up-and-coming talent such as Sophia Grace and Shay Rudolph with 90s icon Alicia Silverstone and fellow veteran Mark Feuerstein. Xóchitl Gómez also starred in the first season, although her role was recast after her left for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness .
From a narrative standpoint, it wouldn’t be too difficult to continue the series. However, there is the matter of young stars who age beyond their characters Over time. Rachel Shurkert herself even claimed that the girls were “really grown up.” She discussed this same hurdle last year, acknowledging that she puts “a bit of a timestamp” on the show. But it’s possible that if a company resumes production, Shurkert will have ideas about how to proceed.
Netflix probably isn’t looking to revive the babysitters club, especially considering how much content you already have on your plate. But with the acclaim the stock has now received, another broadcaster or even a television network could choose to invest in the IP. We’ll have to wait and see if Rachel Shurket and her colleagues can make a comeback.
In the meantime, you can watch these two seasons of the babysitters club now use a Netflix subscription and look forward to the shows that are confirmed for the TV show 2023 .
