Death of Isabel II: the fortune that the queen bequeathed to Carlos III

Castles, jewels, seals… Between assets belonging to the British Crown and Queen Elizabeth’s personal fortune, the new king receives a very diverse inheritance.

King Carlos III not only inherited the throne on the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who had a colossal and, above all, highly diversified personal fortune.

First, the new sovereign will enjoy property that belongs directly to the British Crown. We are talking specifically about Buckingham Palace, tens of thousands of jewels, 200,000 works of art… Everything was estimated by the magazine Forbes to 28 billion euros.

Regarding the personal fortune of Elizabeth II, estimated a few months ago at 430 million euros by the sunday time, a part will also be transmitted to Carlos III, according to the will of the deceased queen. Therefore, it is impossible to accurately estimate the amount recovered by the new sovereign, since the document will remain in the private domain.

In fact, unlike other Britons, the royal family does not have to make the will public. It is also exempt from inheritance tax.

castles across the country

As for private properties, there is, for example, Balmoral Castle in Scotland, the residence where the queen died on Thursday. It is a 19th century castle, located on a 20,000-hectare site. It is estimated at 200 million euros.

Among the residences, there is also the castle of Sandrigham, in the east of England, where the royal family usually celebrates Christmas. Its value is estimated at about 150 million euros.

Farmland, seals, horses…

Also in Queen Elizabeth II’s personal fortune are tens of thousands of acres of farmland and other real estate that sell big every year: £24m in 2021.

Another interesting aspect of the legacy, an amazing collection of stamps, already bequeathed to Elizabeth II by her grandfather George V. And the amount of this collection is dizzying: almost 100 million euros.

Charles III also inherited the Queen’s horses, a very prosperous racing stable that generated several million euros each year.
