It’s great that the actor and the studio are behind it Emancipation they want fans to see their movie so desperately that they’re willing to do a free promotion. The film is significant because it is based on the true story of Gordon, aka Whipped Peter, a runaway slave turned soldier whose story is still told in the history books. Photos of his back, covered in scars from being brutally whipped, helped show the horrors of slavery during the abolitionist movement. It’s an emotionally charged part of American history so more people can see the upcoming movie release the best.

Some reviewers have said Emancipation opens too soon after Will Smith’s infamous Oscar slap on Chris Rock. However, the star responded to this review saying he hopes Antoine Fuqua’s work and behind-the-scenes artists won’t be penalized for their actions.

Soon projections of Emancipation they were very positive . Many say it’s a powerful and moving film to see. Positive audience reaction to the film helped shape the director’s vision and the studio’s decision to release the film this year despite Smith’s controversy.

Smith’s slap isn’t the only controversy that has plagued the film’s release. Recently, the film’s producer, Joey McFarland, came under fire for bringing one of Whipped Peter’s brutal images with him to the film’s premiere. The backlash prompted him to take responsibility and apologize on his personal Instagram. One can only speculate whether Apple’s two-month-long promotion is brilliant marketing or if they’re worried moviegoers won’t show up in theaters due to the many controversies.

Emancipation is in select theaters and will arrive on Apple TV+ today, December 9. In the meantime, check out the 2023 movie release dates to plan your next movie experience.
