The showrunner speaks out after HBO Max continues to cut streaming content

HBO Max has been in the news this year, as the platform revisits the long roster of shows in its catalog ahead of its merger with Discovery+. In the process, the platform removed notable titles, many of which were original offerings produced by the streamer himself and may not be viewable by the public at all after removal. This caused a backlash from showrunners and directors. Recently, showrunner Brig Muñoz-Liebowitz spoke about the impending cancellation of her show, the chubby chronicles service

The Chubby Chronicles is a critically acclaimed sitcom about a Latino family who leaves Santo Domingo to chase the American dream in 1980. Despite positive critical reception, the show will leave HBO Max on December 19. In response to the show’s coming-of-age decision, Brig Muñoz-Liebowitz tweeted his thanks to the cast and crew and asked the audience to watch. its production before it disappears. It is clear that the company is trying to evolve in the direction that suits it best. What creatives seem to dispute, however, even more than sudden cancellations, is the fact that their content may never see the light of day again after being cut. As some of you know, most of these titles don’t see physical press releases, so there’s virtually no legitimate way for a viewer to advance the content.

In addition to causing content to download, Discovery/Warner Bros. has led to a lot of behind-the-scenes changes. Reports state that once HBO Max joins Discovery+, it will be called “Max.” Additionally, 14% of the latter company’s staff were laid off in response to the changes. Only time will tell as it will tell what other shows could suffer the same fate as Brigadier Muñoz-Liebowitz. But what can be said at this point is that you may want to set aside some time to review your favorites in case they get kicked out.
