While all seems to be moving along as usual on HBO, where his acclaimed drama the white lotus just finished its second season on my way to third parties Now, the HBO Max streaming service seems to be on very shaky ground when it comes to its vast library of content. Warner Bros. Discovery merger, including combined streaming platform on the horizon (code name: max ), has prompted all kinds of programming changes over the past few months, and even the austere announcements haven’t stopped. The latest casualty of the company’s cost-cutting decisions is the critically acclaimed sexy drama. Marthawhich was purely and simply canceled despite its renewal for a second season in May 2022.
And that’s not all Martha It’s already been renewed for seven months, but the original HBO Max is said to be in the final stages of filming, with plans to wrap production on season 2 very soon. But instead of celebrating another season of hard work en route to a release date, MarthaEllen Rapoport creator and stars Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson (among many other talents) find themselves without an ongoing concert related to the fictional world of women’s erotic magazines.
HBO Max hasn’t suddenly dropped the ax MarthaIt’s the second season in production, but the service will remove the show entirely from its library, similar to the fate meted out to anime series like endless train Yes Close enoughbaby food like The show is not too late with Elmo Yes little Elena. Most recently, the streaming platform released the Latino family comedy Chubby Chronicleswho sparked angry reactions online .
Martha featured other big names behind the scenes, like EP Paul Feig (from weird and nerdy Yes Bridesmaids celebrities) and EP/writer Ben Karlin (modern family, the program of the day), with Lionsgate TV as the studio behind it all. And for fans more disappointed by this cancellation news, keep in mind that Lionsgate isn’t reacting to this unexpected shock by going to bed. According to Variety the studio is trying to find another home for Martha, probably somewhere that wouldn’t mind footing the bill to complete a nearly full production. Here’s how the company said in a statement:
We have enjoyed a good relationship with HBO Max and are working closely to find a new opportunity for Minx so current and new viewers can continue this journey with us.
Of course there is no reason for Lionsgate TV to burn bridges with complaints about how the tides have suddenly turned Martha, also starring Michael Angarano, Jessica Lowe, Oscar Montoya and Lennon Parham. Instead, the studio is holding its head high in an effort to influence other platforms and/or networks to pick up the series release. Given the material, this doesn’t seem like a likely Disney+ import or anything focused on youth, but given the success of the first season, there will no doubt be plenty of interest in a second. Hopefully there is enough money to balance this interest.
Currently, Martha Season 1 is still available to stream with a Maximum HBO subscription , but it probably won’t last long, so go for it! and meet in our 2023 TV premiere schedule to see which new and recurring shows hopefully don’t get canceled too soon next year.
