A month and a half before the premiere ofAsterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom, the promotion of the new film by Guillaume Canet intensifies. Pathé has just put some thirty posters online this Thursday revealing the appearance of the characters in this blockbuster adapted from the comics by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo.
Obviously, we find there Guillaume Canet in Asterix and Gilles Lellouche in Obelix, as well as the new characters played by Jonathan Cohen (Graindemaïs) and Ramzy Bedia (Epidemaïs). Every character in the movie is entitled to their poster, even the cameramen McFly and Carlito (the Legionnaires Radius and Cubitus).
In these new adventures, the Empress of China is imprisoned after a coup promoted by Deng Tsin Quin, a traitorous prince. Helped by Graindemaïs, a Phoenician merchant, and her faithful warrior Tat Han, Princess Fu Yi, the empress’s only daughter, flees to Gaul to ask Asterix and Obelix for help…
Budget estimated at 65 million euros
This unprecedented story was written by Philippe Mechelen and Julien Hervé, the creators of tucheswith Guillaume Canet at the helm of this blockbuster with an estimated budget of 65 million euros.
The film will have “crazy fight scenes”, promised Guillaume Canet to the JDD. “I know we can do something crazy and we don’t see much in France: a truly great adventure film, epic, with sumptuous sets and costumes.” Release scheduled for February 1, 2023.
