Live Saturday night has long been known to be quite political with some of his sketches, even before stars won Emmys for their performances as politicians, as Alec Baldwin and Maya Rudolph have done in recent years. At the time, Mike Myers and Dana Carvey had a permanent fan favorite Wayne’s world segment like Wayne and Garth, to do and talk about anything. In a 1992 season 18 episode, then 12-year-old Chelsea Clinton found herself a hot topic.
In the episode’s skit, the kids talked about “President-elect” Bill Clinton and named the ten things they love most about him. Element no. 2 on the list was Chelsea Clinton and they talked about her how she looks. be inappropriate, SNL removed this part of the sketch from all future reruns and the official YouTube video, and Clinton herself didn’t find the sketch funny.
On the first episode of the Apple TV + series courageous (opens in a new tab)who is co-host with her mother Hillary Clinton, Chelsea talked about what she was like when SNL fallen sketch. She and her mother spoke to some comedians, one of whom asked Chelsea if she would ever act in cabaret. And she opened up to the harsh reality of being the daughter of well-known personalities:
I had a different comedy experience in a way than a lot of people because when I was a kid, professional comedians made fun of me.
While it’s not uncommon for a celebrity / politician, or unfortunately their child, to be the subject of jokes, hearing that from Chelsea Clinton is downright sad, just knowing what she went through when she was so young. Hillary Clinton said her daughter was also the subject of jokes from political commentators like Rush Limbaugh, but that didn’t upset her as much because she knew she hated them and what her parents represented for.
when it came SNL and the fact that it was adults and comedians making fun of her was another story. Especially knowing that no one thought it was a bad idea before and after the sketch was approved:
But when SNL made fun of me, I thought, “Wow, a group of adults sat in a room and everyone decided it was a good idea, no one thought that” maybe we shouldn’t make fun of the kids. ” I was like, ‘Oh, I don’t think it’s funny or fair, so I don’t think comedy is funny or fair.
Live Saturday night has had its fair share of controversial moments, but ever since they cut Clinton’s role in the Wayne’s world sketch however a long time ago at least someone realized that it had to be removed. Meanwhile, Clinton remains a leading figure despite the hatred she has received over the years. She has become a writer and global health advocate, and for three years she was also a Special Correspondent for NBC News. Of course, the Clintons were still the subject of more than a few sketches SNL (with Kate McKinnon playing Hillary Clinton), but it looks like Wayne’s world The skit stayed in Chelsea Clinton’s mind, and not in a good way.
