Alice Diop on her way to the Oscars? This Wednesday, the Academy of the Oscars unveiled its shortlist of films likely to win a prestigious statuette on March 12, 2023 in Los Angeles.
Already twice awarded at the Venice Film Festival, the film Saint Omer, directed by the French Alice Diop, has made a place for itself in this list. The feature film, which is inspired by the “Berck infanticide” case, was shortlisted for the Oscar for best foreign film.
Last appointments in January
The 43-year-old filmmaker, awarded in 2017 by the César for the best short film for towards tendernessshares this category with 15 other films, including decision to leave (South Korea) or The Cairo Conspiracy (Sweden).
In total, films from 92 countries were eligible in this category this year, but only five will be selected for the 2023 Oscars ceremony. Final nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.
In 2021, it is drive my car by Ryūsuke Hamaguchi who had won the Oscar for Best International Film. Saint Omer is available in theaters from November 23.
