James Cameron has a solid reputation when it comes to bringing amazing female characters to the big screen. Between the return of Sigourney Weaver as Ripley in aliens Linda Hamilton’s turn as a self-taught soldier terminator 2or again Neytiri by Zoe Saldana in 2009 Avatars, the director clearly makes it a priority to bring women to life in his films for others to admire. This time for Avatar: the path of waterputting pregnant women first was especially important to Cameron.
the Avatars continuation has Jake Sully and Neytiri having a very much his own family because James Cameron is a father five years old and wanted to explore that in his latest film. It hasn’t happened in our society, it probably hasn’t happened for hundreds of years. But, I assure you, in the past, women had to fight to survive and protect their children, and it didn’t matter if they were pregnant. And pregnant women are far more capable of being far more athletic than we as a culture recognize… To me, that was the last bastion you don’t see. Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel — all these other amazing women show up, but they’re not mothers and they’re not pregnant while they’re fighting evil.
