Whoopi Goldberg reignited the conversation over her statements earlier this year that she believed the Holocaust wasn’t about race. The comments, at the moment, have earned the TV host a temporary suspension of View and launched a wave of reactionary pieces, official apology by Goldberg, and the framed comments by, by all the people, Gina Carano . Well, Goldberg reopened the question recently when she was interviewed by London’s Sunday Times and asked about the controversy. She expressed her opinion of her, and then had to make an official statement to clarify what she meant in the new interview.
Reading Whoopi Goldberg’s comments in London’s Sunday Times, Jonathan Greenblatt, chief executive of the Anti-Defamation League, posted a peek vocation View the co-hosts comment on the Holocaust and the race as “deeply offensive and incredibly ignorant”. That prompted Goldberg to issue a statement to Deadline in which he clarified that he wasn’t “doubling down” on his opinion of him since the beginning of the year, but simply explaining to the reporter what he was trying to say at the time. Goldberg’s statement reads in part:

I’m still learning a lot and believe me I’ve heard everything everyone was saying. for me. I think the Holocaust had something to do with race, and I’m still as sorry as it was then for upsetting, hurting, and angering people. My sincere apologies again, especially to anyone who thought this was a remake of the theme. I promise not. In this time of growing anti-Semitism, I want to be very clear when I say that I have always stood by the Jewish people and always will be. My support for them has not wavered and never will.
The discussion that started in February was born when Whoopi Goldberg intervened View who did not believe the Holocaust was racial because there was confusion as to whether the Jewish community was a race or a religion. when goldberg Return to View following his suspension , explained how difficult it can be to cover important topics in the five minutes allowed by the show format. And in that moment, she doubled down on her ability to have those conversations, telling her daytime audience:
I hope you keep all the important conversations alive because we will continue to have difficult conversations. Partly because that’s why we were hired. It’s not always good, like I said, and it’s not always how other people want to hear it. But it is an honor to sit at this table and be able to have these conversations because they are important.
But the Twitter thread posted by ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt suggests he doesn’t quite believe Whoopi Goldberg’s apology, as he explains via this social media exchange.
Again, #WhoopiGoldberg’s comments on the Holocaust and race are deeply offensive and incredibly ignorant. When he made similar comments earlier this year, we explained how the Nazi regime was inherently racist. 🧵Continue reading…December 27, 2022
