The CGI-laden James Bond sequence still drives franchise star Colin Salmon crazy

The action is integral to the thrilling legacy that is the 007 franchise. When the team behind the James Bond movie As we enter each new adventure, there’s one major question that always gets asked: what kind of never-before-seen thrills can be used to entertain Bond fans old and new?

Most of the time this process produces something impressive like last minute addition of the sky is falling big train crash , but in the wrong hands, even the most impressive feat of practical knowledge and showpiece physics can turn into a moment of infamy. That’s exactly what happened with die another dayand 20 years later, Bond franchise star Colin Salmon is still freaking out about one particular CGI-heavy sequence.

Yes, my dear readers of Bond Blend, it’s time to once again dig up the case of what is considered one of the weaknesses of the Pierce Brosnan James Bond film : CGI navigation! Salmon isn’t the only critic, and fans still complain that 007 was allowed to parasurf a massive glacial tsunami.

However, when Colin Salmon appeared at the Spyhard Podcasts (opens in a new tab), these frustrations reached a new level of anger. I say this because, as he reveals in the following blurb, there was already a great and practical surfing tip that was already integrated into the film:

The Surfers came out in February in Newquay and did the most amazing stunts and then we got this CGI at the end that made me choke. First of all, you don’t repeat a round. Second, if you’re going to do this, it has to be better than this. Leeward side [Tamohori] and me, we didn’t agree on that sort of thing. I don’t think he understood me well.

Repeating a gimmick, no matter what franchise you’re talking about, is a risky move. Still, it’s pretty silly to do an actual camera walk, only to repeat that movement in a much less cohesive CGI product. What’s worse, we’re supposed to believe that both cases showed us the same 007 at work.

For comparison, see this clip from the opening of Die another day. Here, James Bond and his crew get into position, kicking off the film’s pre-credits sequence:

Once again, the tradition of hands-on approaches to large waterfalls is paying off. However, the 20th James Bond film is gradually going off the rails after its shocking capture of Commander Bond before the credits roll. More and more countries over time, it’s fun trying to find the moment each viewer sits down. die another day the shark jumped.

Which brings us to this CGI surfing scene, where Pierce Brosnan escapes death with a parachute and a makeshift surfboard. Note that the 007 you see here should have skilfully navigated this previous sequence:

The cold is real with the “Tsunami Surfing” music video by die another day. Moviegoers who enjoy this film for its RV parts might agree that it’s a glacier too far away, and for good reason. Colin Salmon’s experience in the world of Bond has given him insight into how the machinery inside actually works, and it’s a shame that, even with the best team in play, a scene like this could have happened.

Audience and critical reaction to the film would play a part in both. get rid of pierce brosnan and reset 007 with Royal Casino. We wouldn’t be surprised if this also leads to the demolition of Halle Berry’s proposal lucky charm divided . Considering the slew of movies we’ve gotten from the Daniel Craig eras, some might even say it was worth it.

After missing this spin-off, well jump Potential candidacy of Colin Salmon as 007 It’s almost enough to fan a fire die another day again. Twenty years on, we’ll just have to wait and see how fans reevaluate the film, as many of Bond’s adventures have seen fortunes swing back and forth over time. Whatever happens, this CGI scene is definitely an example of what happens when this saga goes wrong, and it should haunt us as such.
