Funeral of Elizabeth II: Prince Andrew criticized after sexual assault allegations

Prince Andrew was attacked by a protester as Queen Elizabeth’s hearse passed through Edinburgh on Monday.

Prince Andrew, embroiled in the sexual abuse scandal linked to the Epstein network, was reprimanded by a bystander during the passing of Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin in Edinburgh, Scotland, on Monday. As the hearse left the Saint-Gilles cathedral, a protester arrested King Charles’s brother.

If television changed its plans immediately, videos of the event circulate on social networks.

22-year-old man arrested

In particular, the protester is heard shouting “Andrew, you are an old man sick” (“Andrew, you are an old pervert”) and “asco” (“disgusting”) to the attention of the son of Elizabeth II who was then walking behind the hearse . The protester was immediately exfiltrated by the security services.

According to information from the BBC, a 22-year-old man was arrested. “A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with a public order incident on the Royal Mile at around 2:50pm,” said a police statement obtained by the channel.

The young man explains his gesture in a video published by Joseph Anderson, a journalist for the Holyrood Daily. “Powerful men should not be allowed to commit sexual crimes and get away with it,” he said.

Prince Andrew was accused of sexual assault by Virginia Giuffre in 2001, when he was 17 years old. The young woman had claimed to have been the victim of a series of abuses in exchange for remuneration in sex trafficking organized by billionaire Jeffrey Epstein and in which Prince Andrew had participated.

Loss of his military titles.

As soon as this testimony was revealed in November 2019, the case caused a scandal in the United Kingdom. The prince’s popularity rating dropped significantly, with many Britons calling for Andrew to be dropped.

This earned him the banishment of the son of Elizabeth II from the royal family. He had been stripped of all his military titles, so he did not appear in uniform at his mother’s funeral, and his public appearances – especially during the jubilee – were very limited.

In February 2022, Virginia Giuffre and the prince reached an amicable agreement after a long legal battle. If the prince escaped a civil suit in the United States, he would have to pay 12 million pounds, about 14 million euros to the victim. According to the TelegraphQueen Elizabeth, at the time, had helped her son pay this large sum.
