Scotland’s first minister remembers the day one of the queen’s corgis almost died

One of the Queen’s famous corgis was nearly electrocuted in the presence of Nicola Sturgeon, the Scottish Head of State. She was able to count on her husband to save the dog.

Tributes to the Queen of England continue to abound, five days after her death. On Monday, King Charles III and his wife Camilla were in the Scottish Parliament compound for Nicola Sturgeon, the Prime Minister, to offer her condolences. He took the opportunity to tell a funny anecdote about Elizabeth II and one of her corgis, managing to get a smile from the disconsolate king.

Nicola Sturgeon recalled a visit to the Queen at Balmoral Castle, Scotland, the Queen’s summer residence. “It was obviously the place where (the queen and Prince Philip) were happiest,” he was reported as saying. the independentbefore adding:

“However, I had a rather tense moment at Balmoral. My husband and I were with the Queen, before dinner, when the light began to flicker. To my dismay, after all, I was in the presence of Her Majesty, my husband He jumped up and ran across the room.”

Peter Murrell, husband of Nicola Sturgeon, had “detected the cause of the flickering light”: “one of the queen’s young corgis, a beautiful pup named Sandy, was gobbling up a light switch. Fortunately, the tragedy was averted and Sandy got out unscathed, not without a warning from his lover.”

The corgis, eternal companions of the queen

As reported by daily mailNicola Sturgeon continued her speech assuring the new King Charles III of her support: “Your Majesty, we stand ready to support you, as you continue your own life of service building on the heritage of your beloved mother, our queen.”

The Queen’s love for corgis is well known. The monarch raised them throughout her life. Sandy is one of two surviving dogs: they will be adopted by Andrew, the Queen’s second son.

a country with problems

The disappearance of the Queen has plunged the United Kingdom into a period of national mourning. Citizens flocked to the castles of Balmoral, the place of her death, Windsor and Buckingham to deposit gifts there. Many events are planned according to a precise protocol until the funeral of Elizabeth II, which will take place on September 19 at Westminster Abbey.

And King Charles III has fulfilled many obligations since his disappearance: after his official proclamation on Saturday, he went to Scotland, from which he left on Tuesday for Northern Ireland. He will be in Wales on Thursday.
