While California has always been a celebrity mecca, in recent years many big names have relocated from the City of Angels to a myriad of different cities and locations. The most recent of these was actor and producer Mark Wahlberg, who moved from California to Nevada taking his family with him.
But why did he leave? Well, it turns out he thought Hollywood would be the perfect place to land big roles in projects like transformers This is Unexplored. So he arrived in this densely populated state to find that he didn’t really need to be in Tinseltown after all. Or as stated in The Conversation:
I want to be able to work from home. I moved to California many years ago to pursue acting and only did a few movies the entire time I was there. So being able to provide a better life for my kids and pursue their dreams, whether it was my equestrian daughter, my basketball son, my youngest golf son, made so much more sense to us. .
His words echo many celebrities who have left Hollywood to improve their family lives. Matthew McConaughey e James Van Der Beek moved his children from Los Angeles in Texas to give them a better cultural experience. McConaughey’s wife Camila Alves specifically pointed out that she didn’t want to grow up with the paparazzi not even be “normalized”. Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky have had similar grievances about moving their lives from California to Australia.
Admittedly, it’s not like they’re living the more normal “normalized” life just yet, as Mark Wahlberg and his wife Rhea Durham bought a $14.5 million Las Vegas mansion when they moved out. It would be a redemption for the couple, who owned an $87.5 million property when they lived in Los Angeles.
As for the film itself, since many projects have moved filming outside of California, there’s less need to be in a centralized hub if you’re a big name, although the networking process in Hollywood is always an important idea. . But Wahlberg has big plans for Nevada and says he hopes to get tax credits to make his new state “Hollywood 2.0.” He plans to build a studio and create other projects in his new home, noting:
We have come here to give ourselves a new image, a new beginning for children. There are many opportunities here. I am very excited for the future.
One studio and more sound like pretty ambitious plans, but he wouldn’t be the first player to dabble in the more technical side of the business. Whereas he’s already a production force in Hollywood, having produced some of his own work (see: Joe Bell) but also very popular projects such as basketball players Yup Surroundings, your study space can be the next step. Wahlberg also said earlier this year that he was starting “a new chapter” in his overall career, and this decision may be another reflection of that.
While it appears that this decision hasn’t slowed his performance as an actor one iota, Mark Wahlberg has at least four upcoming projects: The Six Billion Dollar Man, Arthur the King, our man from Jersey, The family plan.
