If there’s one thing this era of TV and film has taught us, it’s that old can be new again. Media consumers have seen their fair share of reboots, spinoffs, and revivals in recent years, and that’s been especially true when it comes to small screen content. NBC alone has seen many of its popular properties revamped in recent years, including will and grace, saved by the bell Yup The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. night courtyard it’s the latest comedy classic to return and is directed by Melissa Rauch, who revealed the idea she “loved” when it came to reviving the series.
Those who were avid sitcom watchers of the 80s and 90s surely know this night courtyard, with Harry Anderson, John Larroquette and Marsha Warfield. Laroquette reprises his Emmy-winning role as prosecutor Dan Fielding, and that’s something Melissa Rauch was excited about. But there was another element of the rebirth that excited her even more, as she explained parade :
The show was sitcom gold because it was vaudeville with that emotional pocket. And I liked the idea of developing a new version from a female point of view.
In the show, the The Big Bang Theory alum plays the role of Abby Stone, the daughter of Harry Anderson’s Harold T. Stone. (Elder Stone is deceased, just like anderson ). In the sequel, Abby takes on the role of her father and becomes the night shift president of the Manhattan Criminal Court. As the protagonist explained, having a female head in the foreground allows for a new interpretation. His “vaudeville” comments are also on point, as the OG show also featured bits of classic comedy and mixed feelings.
based on what do we know about the nbc comedy series , will always stay relatively true to the lead show, which ran for nine seasons on the network from 1984 to 1992. What undoubtedly appealed to audiences was that it featured a collection of eclectic but lovable characters: who were played by a talented cast. Melissa Rauch’s new project would be wise if it followed the guidelines while offering newer elements, such as an altered perspective.
There are probably fans out there hoping to see some of the classics. night courtyard the characters appear and meet John Larroquette’s Fielding. While Harry Anderson and his colleagues franchise veteran Markie Post Yup Charles Robinson is dead , other familiar faces may appear. I wouldn’t mind seeing Richard Moll appear and bring some “vaudeville” energy as Nostradamus’ iconic “Bull” Shannon.
But first, I hope Melissa Rauch’s show can carve out an identity of its own, one that doesn’t depend too much on its predecessor. We hope that she and her colleagues can strike the right tone with the new perspective that she “loved.”
night courtyard premiering tonight, Wednesday, January 17 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC as part of the TV show 2023 . Episodes will also be available to stream using a peacock subscription .
