“You have to be dead for justice to react”: Hoshi is fed up with cyberbullying

The singer, a victim of cyberbullying for more than 3 years, has received more than 5,000 death threats. In the middle of a judicial process, she says she is desperate due to the inaction of the authorities.

In order to “show people what cyberbullying is,” singer Hoshi shared on Twitter last week some of the thousands of misogynistic, homophobic or grosophobic insult messages she receives daily from netizens.

The starting point of this wave of cyberbullying: a performance by the 26-year-old artist at the Victoires de la Musique, in 2020, during which she kissed one of her dancers on stage.

Invited this Wednesday morning by France Inter, Hoshi returned to the “psychological hell” she has suffered without interruption for three years and has expressed herself fed up with the inaction of the authorities.

“We tell ourselves that it is a message here and there and in fact not, the day after the Victories, and there were these messages there in a loop: ‘We will find your address’, ‘we will kill you’, ‘we are going to rape your mother’ “, confesses the singer.

And to add: “There have been 5000 messages like this.”

“I cling to the music”

Hit hard by this cyberbullying, Hoshi explains that she had to completely overhaul her way of life. She was forced to move because her detractors had almost found her address and she can no longer leave without being accompanied, nor having a normal sleep pattern.

“I can no longer go out alone because of the trauma. I’m afraid that out of 5000 messages there is one that can take action. 3 years ago I fell asleep before 6 am. Now I go to the studio at night because I’m too anxious,” she explains.

This daily hatred also had consequences on his health. Hoshi claims that he has lost 10 kilos and that Meniere’s disease, which he suffers from, has been made worse by stress, making him dizzy all the time and hearing loss.

So much so that the interpreter of your sailor He has already thought about ending his career in music. “I actually thought about it more than once. But that would prove them right, so I stick with music, because it’s the only thing that makes me feel good,” she says.

“We let these people die”

But Hoshi’s case is far from isolated, and sometimes even more serious. On January 7, Lucas, a 13-year-old schoolboy, committed suicide in his home in the Vosges, after being harassed for his homosexuality.

“I cried, I was really devastated. I told myself, they can no longer act for me, that I am in the media. […] Not that my daily life is that of many adolescents or adults. […] We let these people die,” Hoshi reacted.

For her part, the singer is immersed in a judicial process. But, despite the thousands of reported messages, only a few minors have been identified but they will not be tried and one person will be heard in a trial scheduled for June. An insufficient verdict for the artist who claims to lose more and more confidence in French justice.

“What I am going to say is horrible, but I almost feel that you have to be dead for justice to react. As long as people don’t act and it’s just threats, no one takes it seriously but it still kills inside. ” she says.

And to conclude: “I am desperate, I don’t know what to do anymore. What I would like is for the investigation to be reopened and for more people to be found and for us to set an example in France once and for all.” for everyone, so that maybe it demotivates some”.
