It’s been almost a full month since then Crystal Onion: a mystery at loggerheads was released to Netflix subscribers following its brief theatrical release in late November. Like its predecessor, glass onion has been critically acclaimed and people keep talking about the biggest and most shocking twists of the standalone sequel. But for Rian Johnson, the writer and director of those films, he’s already writing knives out 3and shared why he’s so “excited” for part three.
we knew knives out 3 has been coming since Netflix acquired the rights and glass onion after Lionsgate handled the distribution of the former knives out movie, but for fans of Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc, it sure is good to hear that Rian Johnson is crafting the next Detective Souther adventure. Though Johnson still hopes to return to the Star Wars franchise one day, I had this to say to Empire as to why you are approaching it knives out 3 following:
I do the following [Benoit Blanc movie] then because it’s the most exciting thing right now for me. It has served me very well. I feel like whatever movie I do, I have to do it because I can’t imagine doing anything else. I’m jumping on the next Benoit Blanc because I don’t see any other stories.
Remember that Rian Johnson was not particularly enthusiastic a mystery of knives be nailed glass onionthe title of, so don’t expect it to refer to the third party as knives out 3. Caveat aside, if Benoit Blanc’s next film is at the top of your creative mind right now, it’s only right that you get it out of your system now rather than trying to shelve it and focus on another project. However, Johnson also clarified that, at the moment, he doesn’t have a concrete plan in place to do so knives out 3 still saying:
I have a big cloud of ideas, but not everything is ready yet. It’s exciting, though, and it’s very, very different than that. This is what excites me.
In other words, it will take some time for the plot information to do that knives out 3 fate, but at least Rian Johnson has an overabundance of ideas to work with instead of a shortage. However, one thing we can count on for sure is that, as happened between knives out Yup glass onionDaniel Craig will probably be the only face to come back for knives out 3. After all, this crime film series revolves around Benoit Blanc meeting a new cast of colorful characters and discovering which of them has committed murder. Beyond that, however, the sky’s the limit where this third film could take the detective, and as we speak, Johnson is hard at work putting the full picture together.
