ITV boss weighs in on Jeremy Clarkson’s anti-Meghan Markle comments

British TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson is currently embroiled in controversy over an article he wrote in late 2022. The 62-year-old media personality has come under fire for an editorial sharply criticizing Meghan Markle. The article, which has since been deleted, quickly caused a stir and Clarkson formally apologized earlier this week. Despite that, he’s still experiencing a setback, with some entertainment entities cutting ties with him. A newly discovered letter from the head of ITV, one of Clarkson’s frequent collaborators, has now revealed the company’s response to his comments.

Jeremy Clarkson hosted BTI Who wants to Be a Millionaire? since 2018. In the wake of his story against Meghan Markle, several people have called for him to be removed from office. It turns out that Carolyn McCall, the CEO of the aforementioned network, sent a letter to Nicolson on December 22nd. In it, the executive details the control the company apparently has over Clarkson-produced content:

Your concerns are entirely understandable. ITV has no editorial control over Jeremy Clarkson’s independent reporting in The Sun or wherever he chooses to publish. Everyone at ITV is very aware of our responsibilities as a public service broadcaster and I would like to clarify that the comments made were made by Jeremy Clarkson and are in no way endorsed by ITV. There is no space on ITV for the comments made in this article.

This letter was purchased by Deadline , which also noted details about the host’s current deal with the network. According to the trade, he only has a contract for one season (or series) of more than Who wants to Be a Millionaire?, which will shoot in February for a summer release. Although Caroline McCall did not give details about her future, ITV program director Kevin Lygo said the presenter would remain with the show. These comments were delivered around the same time McCall sent him his letter, in which he also assessed the guest’s relationship with the company:

It should also be added that Jeremy Clarkson is not an employee of ITV and when he appears on ITV it is as a quiz show presenter on a show which does not provide a platform for his views.

Jeremy Clarkson made more than a few scathing comments about Meghan Markle in his post. In one instance, he said she “she dreamed about the day [Markle] parade naked through city streets across Britain as crowds chant ‘Shame on you!’ The editorial was published around the time Markle and her husband Prince Harry docuseries, harry and meghan first .
