Debates can go on for weeks about the impact of social media on our culture. is it valuable? A distraction? Are we wasting too much time? Or are we not using it to the best of its ability? As strange as it sounds, all of this could be true. But for the purposes of the new film lefta sequel to John Cho’s hit Research (who we gave a positive review ), technology saves lives…literally. Despite Cho did not return for the sequel. producers and writers have discovered new ways to tell stories in the Searching genre, this time by switching to a new character played by The Last of Us with Storm Reid.
left It begins when Grace Allen (Nia Long) goes on vacation with her new boyfriend (Ken Leung), leaving their teenage daughter June (Storm Reid) at home. June does what you’d expect: she hangs out with friends, orders too much food, and throws parties. But on the day June is due to pick up Grace at the airport, her mother never shows up, sending June to hunt the man using every form of technology available to her.
Sit with Storm Reid on behalf of left , we asked her to compare her technical skills to June’s and to consider whether the film changed her mind about the amount of technology in her life. She spoke about social media, telling Gossipify:
I think I’m pretty good technically. But June is much better than me. I think that’s what makes the film so cool and fresh and funny is that it’s relatable. We live in the age of social media, so I think people will be able to recognize the social media platforms you use. It will make them feel a little more part of the journey as they try to solve this mystery. And I think it is very good.
