Because Jeopardy host Ken Jennings doesn’t talk much with contestants, says the former champ

when Danger! went looking for a new host to replace the great Alex Trebek, everyone seemed to have an opinion on who should fill that seat. Ken Jennings was considered a favorite among the revolving door celebrities who auditioned for the job, drawing the the support of former candidates fans and even Trebek himself , as many argued that Jennings’ legacy with the game show made him a favorite. However, now that he was appointed permanent co-host – a position he swaps with Mayim Bialik – a former champion explained why they don’t talk much with Jennings during filming.

Ray LaLonde started the new year as Danger!the last Super Champion by, earning $386,400 in thirteen wins to secure a spot in this year’s Tournament of Champions. After his streak ended, he spoke with toronto life Of Danger! GOAT , revealing why he and the other contestants haven’t had much downtime with Ken Jennings. Londe said:

In fact, you don’t get to see much of Ken. Due to the resolution of scandals in the 1960s, game shows were heavily controlled, just like lotteries. There are many systems to ensure that the game cannot be tampered with in any way, and one of them is that the host is not near the competitors. They have a policeman on set who draws the names of who will be playing and what the categories will be that day. It’s very random.

In the 1950s, there was a lot of corruption in game shows, and manufacturers were known to fix the outcome of games. The most famous of these events was the Twenty-one scandals dramatized in 1994’s Best Picture Oscar nominee television contest. Of course, times (and laws) have changed since then, and apparently Ken Jennings isn’t allowed to fraternize with contestants for legal reasons.

Ray LaLonde has provided a few other interesting ones Danger! trade, including the officials who oversee the selection of contestants and the random categories that will appear on the game board. Mayim Bialik spoke last year about the importance of everything done honestly, detailing the process that everyone goes through to make any kind of correction . An attorney is present on set, he said, and if the judges later find an incorrect answer acceptable, according to the co-host, “that usually means we’re closed for an hour.”

Keeping everything fair is also why Danger! powers that the rule is approved only when someone hosts a game of Danger!, are no longer allowed to participate in future games. Longtime producer Sarah Foss told the Danger inside! podcasts that guest hosts have “seen behind the scenes,” possibly giving them an unfair edge or understanding over other competitors.

yes that means Ken Jennings is now technically banned from acting in everything Danger! games or tournaments in the future, though executive producer Michael Davies has admitted he might be willing to break that rule if the man with the longest winning streak in Danger! history he expressed interest in playing again. How could you say no to the GOAT? That doesn’t seem like a problem, though, as the executive producer said Jennings constantly pretends he has no interest in playing the game again, too bad he’s cut out from the other contestants as well.
