Netflix can say thanks to Harry and Meghan. The platform, which just announced its fourth quarter results, gained 7.7 million subscribers. Thanks to its cheaper subscription with advertising, but also to its successful content, such as the documentary series harry and meghanor the series Wednesday by Tim Burton.
The documentary series on the life of the Sussexes, broadcast in early December in two bursts of three episodes, and criticized from all sides, is thus the second most watched Netflix documentary series in the history of the platform.
Netflix is not the only one to be able to rejoice in its contract with Prince Harry. His publisher Penguin Random House, which on January 10 published his memoirs entitled alternate, welcomed the book’s record sales. The book thus sold 1.4 million copies in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom on the first day. In France, 85,000 copies of Le Suppléant were sold in the first five days.
I am not sure, however, that this documentary and this book will allow the prince to reconcile with his family, which has been heavily criticized on screen and in print. The prince in particular accuses his father and his stepmother Camilla of not having protected Meghan from the British press, and even of having manipulated it for her benefit. He also describes the intimate springs of his stormy relationship with his brother, Prince William, future King of England.
These serial revelations do not play in the favor of Harry and Meghan, whose popularity rating is at its lowest level in the United Kingdom, but also in the United States.
