I don’t know if Amy Poehler is more fondly remembered for her eight seasons Saturday night live or its seven-season run on the infinitely revisitable Parks and Amusement, but her two beloved projects collided last night when she made a surprise appearance. Aubrey Plaza Hosted sl last night and spent the weekend update like it parks and entertainment April Ludgate, and luckily for fans, also brought along her old boss: Poehler’s Leslie Knope.
Originally, the purpose of the skit was for April to explain to young people how they can get involved in local government. Considering her personality, she didn’t exactly do it in the most enthusiastic way; so Leslie Knope had to participate. You can watch the truly hilarious moment below…
She’s a great example, to me, of why Amy Poehler is one of my favorite hosts for weekend updates. She just has the perfect cadence in the way she talks which makes it feel like a real newscast and comedic performance. She could join the band full time tomorrow and be as brilliant as ever.
Poehler, of course, hosted the Weekend Update for parts of his tenure at Saturday night live. She first got the job in 2004 and co-hosted with Tina Fey. Both women were very successful and later joined projects outside of sl What sisters and underrated criminals little mom. After Fey left the show, she hosted briefly with Horatio Sanz before establishing another long-term partnership with Seth Meyers. As such, it should come as no surprise that she delivered his last dog joke perfectly.
As for the rest of the episode, Aubrey Plaza obviously crushed it. The comedian offered a beautiful parody of the white lotus I call black lotus as well as a parody of Avatars and the more traditional sketch comedy you’d expect as a couples version of game night. Plaza was expected to be a great host, given her comedic timing and willingness to go weird, and she kept high hopes.
Saturday night live He’s been away for a while over the holidays but will be back next week with upcoming host Micahel B Jordan and musical guest Lil Baby. It should be a great episode, even if it’s the second the cast has done without much time. sl Cecily Strong’s Pillar. She left the show at the end of the year and obviously received a very fitting send-off for someone who has had such a huge impact on the long-running series.
sl Leader Lorne Michaels qualified for this transitional year early in the season and it’s easy to see why. Thankfully, many of the new cast members continue to find their place. It will be fun to see the cast continue to come together and solidify as we head into SNL’s historic 50th season, which should be filled with plenty of entertainment and, I’m sure, tons of returning players from the franchise’s glorious history.
