Well, it’s still early development. But I can confirm that we are co-developing the Netflix series with Ubisoft Film & Television, Netflix of course, and incredibly talented showrunner, Jeb Stuart. It will be an epic, live-action and genre-changing adaptation of our video game series.
It’s great that the series is still in development, but it’s more than a little odd that the series is seemingly so early that you can’t really tell what it’s all about. Obviously, this process has been slow. It seems likely that when the show was announced, the deal had just been signed and things may not have changed until the showrunner was hired last year.
Assassin’s Creed a centuries-old battle between Assassins and Templars follows. The games are mostly set in a historical period, such as the Italian Renaissance or the American Revolution, but the events experienced are actually those of a modern nature, experiencing the genetic memory of an ancestor through advanced technologies.
Moving slowly isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The last time Assassin’s Creed it was adapted for the screen, it didn’t work well , so taking your time to make sure this new project works isn’t the worst idea in the world. Even star Michael Fassbender admitted the film wasn’t fun. What else can I say next?
While the lack of movement could be read as a possible lack of interest, indicating that the series could end up in development hell forever, as many shows and movies have done, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Along with the news that the Netflix series continues to move forward, comes the news that Netflix and Ubisoft are working together on three different mobile games, one of which is also based on Assassin’s Creedso both sides of this partnership appear to be engaging in each other, which makes it seem like this show will eventually happen.
