Madonna’s biopic won’t finally see the light of day. As revealed by the media varietyThis project announced in 2020 was canceled at Universal Studio, while the singer has just presented her Celebration Tour, a world tour on the occasion of her 40-year career.
The biopic, which was still in development until 2022, was to trace the star’s beginnings in music to her rise as queen of pop. To be as faithful as possible to this story, it was the singer herself who had to make this feature film.
Madonna was to work as a co-writer on the project, along with Diablo Cody, winner of the Oscar for Best Screenplay for June in 2007.
Julia Garner as Madonna
In June 2022, Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress Julia Garner was offered the role of Madonna in this biopic. The 28-year-old New York actress was selected from a dozen candidates, including Alexa Demie (Euphoria), Florence Pugh (midsummer) and singers Bebe Rexha and Sky Ferreira.
On July 15, Madonna will kick off her anniversary celebration tour in Vancouver, Canada, before heading across North America and kicking off the European leg of her tour on October 14 in London. The pop star will notably pass through the Accor Arena in Paris on November 12, 13 and 19, 2023 and will complete her tour in Amsterdam on December 2.
