It was a brief but emotional moment as Neil Patrick Harris made a legendary and impressive return to the how i met you [insert significant other] universe as Barney Stinson. like him second season of how i met your father begins, it seems that this small appearance of the mythical character will not be the only one, since the creators of the series recently discussed his cameo and the future of NPH in the Hulu spin-off.
Show creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger cut into the episode’s shocking final minutes when Sophie reveals she’s been thinking about dating her father, then has an accident with Barney. television line . The creators made that clear i want to bring back HIMYM personages and they also have specific goals when asking an OG actor to return to the universe, Aptaker explained their reasoning and big cameo:
Whenever we talk about bringing an original crew member back to life, you want it to serve two purposes: you want to give an insight into what’s going on in their lives, where they landed and where they are, but it’s also about their impact on the story of How I Met Your Father and how they send one of our characters in a new and unexpected direction. Like Robin last year, we’ll learn a little more about Barney’s situation, but it will also have a big impact on the trajectory and main storyline of our season.
It’s going to be a lot of fun to see how Barney fits in big time how i met your father history. I’m sure this will bring back all the funny jokes and pranks, but it’s also clear that the more problematic aspects of the character are long gone.
When it came to bringing Barney back to life, Berger explained that they talked about how the character’s actions play out HIMYM I wouldn’t fly these days. He said it was something they talked about with Harris, and they were finally able to faithfully bring back his character, leaving some of his “misdeeds,” as Harris called his character’s questionable actions according to television line – in the old days.

We’ll have to wait and see. This car accident becomes a major turning point in Sophie’s life and her season-long story arc. Once we get that figured out, I think people will be pleasantly surprised by how their story unfolds through Barney.
So unlike Cobie Smulders’ brief cameo, it looks like Harris is joining the pack how i met your father problem for just over an episode, which is very exciting. With Smulders and Harris, Josh Radnor also said he was ready to come back if you ask, now all we need are Jason Segel and Alyson Hannigan, and we could get the whole gang back together.
