Spoilers ahead for the fourth season premiere of 9-1-1: Lone Star! Read at your own risk.
Fox’s first response drama 9-1-1: Lone Star it finally got its first season 4, and sure enough, it wasn’t without some crazy emergencies, like a rain of frogs. Besides the heat wave and bizarre storms 126 faced, TK and Carlos continued planning their wedding after they got engaged lonely star Season 3 finale. However, the premiere also created a major problem for Tarlos and has apparently been planned for some time.
While trying to book his dream home, Carlos discovered it was available in eight weeks, which meant he had to confess a secret he was keeping. He admitted to TK that he is married to Iris, the sister of Liv Tyler’s paramedic captain Michelle Blake from Season 1. The two got married after Carlos came out as gay to his parents, who didn’t really accept it, and they remained married. after Iris. she was diagnosed with schizophrenia so that she could enjoy the health benefits of hers.
Carlos actor Rafael Silva revealed a uh who knew the story from the beginning. This may explain why Carlos and Michelle were so close in Season 1, as he always made sure he was the arresting officer when she went too far to find her missing sister:
Tim shared this with me when I started the show. We haven’t had the time or space to explore this story until now, but I’ve always known that and it’s been a big part of justifying who Carlos is, who he wants to be and why he acts the way he does. In fact, I’m very grateful to have had this little secret.
The story of the wedding certainly came as a surprise, and it’s even more surprising to know that it was planned from the start. Because Liv Tyler left at the end of season one, Tim Minear said uh they were never able to solve the story. However, now seems like the perfect time to rekindle the subject with TK and Carlos preparing for their special day, which causes secrets to create yet another obstacle for the couple once again:
There was always something in the back of my head that they had a failed romance when she was still wondering, when they were much younger. And we’re sorry that Iris’s story was never fully resolved. [when Liv Tyler left the show at the end of season 1], so maybe there’s more to play with there. And Lyndsy Fonseca is so beautiful and so gorgeous and so funny and such a great dramatic actress, so it felt like there was a talent pool that we could tap into. And boy, were we right, she is fabulous.
The episode saw Carlos finally reunite with Iris, who is now working at a shelter (with all the perks) and looking much better than we last saw her in Season 1. Maybe all of that will come together in a future episode that really checks it out. look back on their relationship before they got married so we can see how close they were and what happened between them.
Even though Iris is OK with the divorce since she no longer needs his help, what does TK think about all of this? Though he was confused at first and certainly didn’t like that his fiancée never told him, Ronen Rubinstein told BNC News that TK is more understanding than ever:
At first, TK is confused and perhaps a little discouraged. The cool thing about this scene is [T.K.] I can’t take it too personally. It was Carlos who was great friends with Iris, and once TK finds out why that happened, it goes back to TK rooting for Carlos, and then we show this loving couple. … It all boils down to: ‘We will find a solution. I understood you. You have me.’
Just eight weeks into Tarlos’ wedding, the road to “yes” will be problematic, because according to Carlos, Texas law dictates that he must divorce for a month before remarrying. Tarlos has already been through a lot and there’s nothing they can’t handle, even if it won’t be easy. Though the end result is definitely worth it if it means TK and Carlos will finally get married.
