L’Orville: new horizons season 3 ended on Hulu in August 2022 and fans are still nowhere near knowing whether or not the Seth MacFarlane series will return for season 4. Just days after actress Penny Johnson Jerald posted a video on Date the situation, fans received an update from one of Hulu’s superiors about the show’s renewal possibilities. Unfortunately, the answer is very superficial and it’s a bit frustrating.
Craig Erwich, officially known as ABC Entertainment President for Hulu & Disney Branded Television Streaming Originals, was approached by TV Line regarding the possibilities of the orville returns for season 4. Sadly, there wasn’t much to go on. Erwich said:
We have nothing to share at this time. It’s a great show and I know the fans loved seeing him back in their lives. And put [MacFarlane] he did a great job, in the most unique way possible, in front of and behind the camera. But at the moment we have nothing to share.
“Nothing to share” is a rather ambiguous statement, as well as annoying for fans who have been waiting for news on the matter for a long time. To be clear, fans were concerned the orvilleSeason 3 premiere status premiered on Hulu. Rumors circulated at the time that Hulu had no plans to renew the series and that season 3 would be the end of the Seth MacFarlane show. But nothing in that statement says it’s officially over.
Interviews with the cast and Seth MacFarlane have since indicated that the cancellation isn’t a certain thing, but viewership and online fan interaction could certainly be a factor in the show’s revamp. L’Orville: new horizons has been made available to those with a Disney+ subscription in addition to Hulu in recent months, but it’s the series’ biggest development in a long time.
If the show is over, why didn’t Hulu just announce it? It could be because Hulu would like more episodes, but there’s another problem.
like now, L’Orville: new horizons replayed the second half of season 3 in such a way that it could be set up for both renewal and cancellation. The penultimate episode “Domino” made major changes to the show’s universe that would no doubt carry over into season 4. The season 3 finale, ironically titled “Future Unknown,” could certainly serve as a series finale if need be, though fan. there hoping that’s not the case.
the orvilleHowever, the current situation looks even worse to me than a full cancellation, as the show is simply in limbo. At least if it was cancelled, fans could encourage networks to save the series or shut it down. Instead, many are still waiting for any sign that Season 4 could happen, and if it does, it’s unclear how long it will take to see.
We are not close to the answers in yet the orville returns for season 4, but the series is available to stream on Hulu and Disney+. More looks at the series might help someone decide whether to renew it, so stream it early and often.
