Kingstown Mayor Tobi Bamtefa reveals why Mike and Bunny trust each other and how Mike’s decision changes their relationship

Spoilers on the first three episodes of Mayor of Kingtown first.

The balance of power in Kingstown is constantly shifting, with someone always trying to sabotage someone else, and in an act to keep the peace, Mike McLusky (Jeremy Renner), the mayor of Kingstown, and Bunny (Tobi Bamtefa), one of the most powerful gang leaders have found a way to cautiously trust each other in an attempt to control the chaos of the prison city. However, after Mike decided to send all the main ringleaders to prison to restructure the power hierarchy within the prison, that trust is now in question and Bamtefa broke that relationship for Gossipify, explaining why they trust each other. ‘more and how the latest episode affects the future of Bunny and Mike.

Bamtefa discussed his character’s relationship with Renner’s character Mike, noting the trust they share and how rare it is. The actor explained:

Because Bunny and Mike understand each other beyond the confines of Kingstown. The understanding is that they both see or want to be part of a world outside of [Kingstown], they both see the big picture and assume they belong in it. But they are also very aware of their substitutability in this world. And you’re replaced by death, you know, or something tragic happens. So this kind of threat above your head is quite common. But there is also a responsibility that comes with the positions they both hold. And both count. And that’s how, you know, they come to a meeting of like minds in a way.

Bamtefa went on to say that there is “trust” between the two, but it is “weak”. Even though, even though their relationship may not be there the brotherly love that Kyle and Mike share They really trust each other which is rare in Kingstown. However, after the second episode, the relationship between Bamtefa’s character and Renner’s changed slightly.

Three huge things dropped at the end of episode two of Mayor of Kingtown, Iris has made up her mind about the offer back to Milo, the big bad played by Aidan Gillen , Kyle shot two people while he was working , and Mike struck a deal with the gang leaders in an attempt to restructure the hierarchy of power within the prison. As far as Mike’s deal goes, he ended up sending one of Mike’s closest allies to jail, without being completely transparent about the plan. Because of this, Bamtefa has now explained Bunny’s feelings towards Mike, saying that while their relationship is strained, she also understands the mayor’s actions.

Both are well aware of the brutality of this world. So it’s not, it’s not shocking. It’s difficult. You know. And so as a result, the relationship is really strained. It’s always been difficult to get started, because you’re in this environment. But when the only perceived ally that you have is, you know, having to maneuver and stuff, he puts you in a very strange position, because you want to trust but you also have to survive. Your survival is paramount.

Bunny definitely reaches a point in episode 3 where his survival becomes top priority. She must get out of prison and get back to her family, his garden and garden chair that hardly ever goes out . As she returns home, it will be interesting to see how her relationship with Mike changes. Although, as Bamtefa explained, these two characters understand each other and in the end I think she will go back to what Mike did and she will trust the mayor again.
