the grudge The star isn’t entirely out of place in her assessment of some of the fan backlash and rude treatment of female-led MCU films. Let’s take a look at fan responses to the film directed by women. Marvel movies in order .
Captain Marvel (2019)
Kevin Feige and Co. already had twenty films in his layered universe before releasing the film directed by Brie Larson. captain marvel in 2019. The first female-led Marvel film was anything but easy. YouTube has even changed its algorithm to combat disgruntled fans who argued the film had too much of a political agenda. However, it should be noted that all the people who disliked the film were men. See what 24 News Bulletin Jessica Rawden had to say because he didn’t really like the movie.
Black Widow (2021)
While some thought Scarlett Johansson’s swansong about her killer becoming an Avenger came too late in Marvel’s film schedule, the film was largely well received especially by the fans. As for the critics’ response, Black Widow it is currently at 79% on the Tomatometer with reviews while maintaining a 91% audience score. The show was a hit with critics and fans alike and had no online troll campaigns focused on the genre. It was a great start to the MCU’s television outing. Again, fans have had years to warm to Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany in their respective roles.
Mrs. Marvel (2022)
Mrs. Wonder had its first episode (of six total) premiering on Disney+ on June 8, 2022. Early reactions to the show they have been extremely positive for gay teens going wild. She-Hulk: Lawyer (2022)
She-Hulk: Lawyer follows Jennifer Walters, played by Tatiana Maslany, as she navigates her complicated life as a single 30-something lawyer and an 8-foot green superhero named She-Hulk. final thoughts
While gender definitely has something to do with some of the flash reviews that have been seen on Marvel’s female-led property, I seriously wonder if there’s something else going on at the same time. It seems that the movies and shows that get the most flak from online trolls tend to be the ones that focus on new characters, with gender politics at the heart of the property’s promotion.
Whether or not you agree with Sarah Michelle Gellar’s critique of Marvel’s fan base and her treatment of female leads, even as we ultimately see more and more representation in genre content, it’s clear there is still some work to do.
